Reconstruction

of the Brehmer Villa - 2007
January (exterior)

The extensive work on the roof and facade is now finished. The building should now look pretty similar to how it was in 1898. Strict guidelines for the preservation of historical monuments was the reason to have the building's exterior look as close as possible to the original. Currently the main entrance door has been removed to start the reconditioning process.

January (interior)

The cellar's walls have been plastered. Drywalling inside the building is at full throttle. Ceilings were removed to later install modern lighting fixtures. An elaborate substructure was necessary to accommodate this. The foyer's dome in the attic received an overbuilding that will later allow for a sitting and reading area.

February

The completion of the interior is at full throttle on all floors. The sprinkler system is almost done and the water tank was just resealed. The scaffolding in the foyer has been put up so that the painter can start working. The floor heating is being laid on the second floor and will go online shortly. The attic will receive its own complete remodeling.

March

A quick look into the sprinkler control room where arm-thick pipes were installed. The foyer's dome received its new paint and the lighting fixtures were mounted also. The original, elaborately painted window has been restored and installed. The ceilings on the second floor were also painted and the walls plastered. The new rooms appear friendly and bright.

April

The walls on the first floor are being plastered right now. The foyer's ceiling has yet to be drywalled. The rooms on the second floor are almost finished and the floor has been recently laid. The platform in the attic has been furnished with parquet flooring and is being sanded to apply the lacquer on. After Easter the museum's first glass display cases will be arriving.

May

Here is a little tour of the museum's top floor. The work here is done. The glass displays are now being built and will take approximately 3 weeks to complete. After that we will start with the implementation of the showroom's concept and bring in the museum’s furnishings.

June

The glass display cases are now assembled and are in their definitive places in the showrooms. Apart from some minor detail work, the interior is now completely finished. The remaining work on the outside is the last portion of the building's complete renovation. The path around the house, parking area and fence, the latter being built to the exact specifications of the original, are still missing. Everybody is working very hard to finish everything within schedule.

July

We are in the final stretch - the opening day is getting closer. The museum will open its doors on July 21st, 2007. A quick glance through the museum's rooms shows that the work done over the last few months has finally paid off. The building has been extensively renovated and converted into a museum and now gleams in its new splendor. Its exhibit is unique in Europe and showcases the German instrument manufacturer Framus.
