Framus Netherlands – Vol. III: Nederrock

New Sounds were soon sweeping away the popularity of the Kilima Hawaiians and other Hula bands – in the late 1950s it was time for Rock´n´Roll: young René Nodelijk therefore attended a national Elvis Presley contest, and came Third Place.
By 1958, he founded one of the first rock´n´roll bands of the Netherlands, “The Rockin´ Sensation Boys”. However, the breakthrough was made with his second band which he formed a year later, “The Alligators”.
The band name of course was inspired by Bill Haley´s hit “See You Later Alligator”. Two weeks after René had formed this group it won a first prize during their debut in a national talent show in Vlaardingen. Now their unprecedented rise took place. The first record was released in 1960 and by the end of the same year they started their first tour to a foreign country.
They went to Germany. Most possibly, they visited Framus back then? Whilst René was playing his homemade electric guitar by 1958 one can recognize but three Framus instruments on the scooter picture: a Star Bass 5/150, and two Hollywood guitars (a 5/129 and a 5/132).
René and His Alligators were setting the example for many Dutch beat bands to come in the 1960s. Nowadays they are regarded as one of the best bands in the history of Dutch pop music.
Thanks to Piet Muys (http://www.pmouse.nl/) who delivered the pictures!
